When I came onto the Chirp project there were two things that already existed: a simple logo, and a ton of technical wireframes outlining how the app should theoretically function. There was no visual system in place yet. The focus was not to change the existing logo but rather how to use it as a foundation in the design language. To that end I knew I wanted to animate the logo and then repurpose that concept in the app to represent the transition between locked and unlocked states.
The entire concept for the app was to finally make a smart access system that was simple and intuitive. In fact, at a certain point we developed the idea of Spaceship Mode which allowed users to set their access credentials once, and then never even need to utilize the app in their day-to-day. An app so streamlined you didn’t even need to “use” it.
There are many, many more flows for staff, maintenance, delivery personnel, guests, and hybrid users that I’d be happy to show in more detail upon request.
